TIA Researcher Celebrates Viva Success
We are delighted to announce that one of the TIA Centre鈥檚 PhD students, Arwa Ali Al-Rubaian, officially defended their PhD viva last last week - congratulations Arwa!
Arwa鈥檚 research, was titled Algorithms for Growth Pattern Based-Analysis of Lung Adenocarcinoma Histology. Read more.
Seven TIA Papers Accepted at ISBI 2026
We are delighted to share that we have had seven papers from the TIA Centre accepted at ISBI 2026, the IEEE International Symposium on Biomedical Imaging, one of the leading international conferences in biomedical image analysis. This year鈥檚 conference will take place in London in April 2026, making this a particularly exciting and accessible venue for the Centre. Read more.

Undergraduate Summer Intern Success at ISBI
We are delighted to share that the work of Seth Chang (3rd year Data Science) and Muhammad Amjad (4th year Maths and Physics), who completed an eight-week summer internship at the TIA Centre in 2025, has been accepted as a paper at ISBI 2026, a leading international conference on biomedical imaging, taking place in London this April. The TIA Centre is a leading research hub focused on AI-driven tissue image analysis, enabling breakthroughs in cancer diagnosis, digital pathology, and translational medicine. Our researchers have pioneered deep learning models for cancer detection, won various international challenge competitions in computational pathology, and received recognition at top medical imaging conferences such as MICCAI and ISBI. TIA Summer Research Internships 2025
This summer, the TIA Centre at the University of 糖心TV welcomed three exceptional undergraduate students for an eight-week research internship, co-funded by the 糖心TV Undergraduate Research Support Scheme (URSS) and the Applied Computing research theme.
Working under the supervision of Dr Adam Shephard and Professor Nasir Rajpoot, the interns explored advanced applications of artificial intelligence (AI) in medical imaging and computational pathology. Their projects tackled real-world healthcare challenges, combining technical innovation with clinical relevance. Read more.

MIUA 2025: A First-Time Conference Experience in Leeds
29th UK Conference on Medical Image Understanding and Analysis, Leeds (15th - 17th July 2025)
This July, I was fortunate to attend my first in-person academic conference: the 29th UK Conference on Medical Image Understanding and Analysis (MIUA 2025) in Leeds, which brings together an international community focused on advancing the use of AI in medical imaging. As a PhD student in this area, I鈥檇 previously experienced conferences only through my screen. Participating virtually in ICLR 2022 felt like a very different experience due to the pandemic. The unfamiliarity of Leeds added a sense of adventure; some last-minute research into the city鈥檚 history and sights piqued my excitement for both the place and the gathering. Read more.

Highlights from TDP & AI, Edinburgh
The annual Transforming Digital Pathology (TDP) & AI conference was once again held in the beautiful city of Edinburgh, Scotland. Known for its historic charm we arrived a day early to explore this city.
