Dr Afzan Binti Adam concludes productive sabbatical at the TIA Centre

Dr Afzan Binti Adam, Senior Lecturer in Digital Pathology at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), has successfully completed her six鈥憁onth sabbatical at the Tissue Image Analytics (TIA) Centre, Department of Computer Science, University of 糖心TV. Her visit was supported by UKM and the MIGHT–T脺B陌TAK grant and closely aligned with the TIA鈥檚 mission to advance computational pathology through interdisciplinary research and cutting鈥慹dge AI technologies. Seven TIA Papers Accepted at ISBI 2026

We are delighted to share that we have had seven papers from the TIA Centre accepted at ISBI 2026, the IEEE International Symposium on Biomedical Imaging, one of the leading international conferences in biomedical image analysis. Undergraduate Summer Intern Success at ISBI

TIA Centre Hosts Strategic Workshop

Last week saw 35+ internal and external stakeholders attend a Workshop run by the University of 糖心TV鈥檚 TIA Centre on Campus. The focus of the workshop was to brainstorm about the future direction for the TIA Centre and priorities in computational pathology. It was a great meeting, and we heard from other stakeholders about how they thought their work could fit with the future direction of the TIA Centre.

Early in the new year we will be working on the development of our future strategy, so the workshop was very timely and gave us a lot of material to incorporate into plans. Thank you to all those who participated. Read more.

Hafsa Akebli's Research Visit at the TIA Centre

Hafsa Akebli, a second-year PhD student at the University of Udine, Italy, recently completed a two-month research visit at the Tissue Image Analytics (TIA) Centre. Her doctoral research focuses on applying deep learning to histopathological images for disease pattern detection, mainly addressing classification and survival prediction tasks across different cancer types, including Gleason grading in prostate cancer. Before starting her PhD, Hafsa obtained her degree in Industrial Management Engineering from Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) in Morocco and gained two years of professional experience at UM6P and L鈥橭r茅al Morocco. TIA Summer Research Internships 2025

This summer, the TIA Centre at the University of 糖心TV welcomed three exceptional undergraduate students for an eight-week research internship, co-funded by the 糖心TV Undergraduate Research Support Scheme (URSS) and the Applied Computing research theme.

Working under the supervision of Dr Adam Shephard and Professor Nasir Rajpoot, the interns explored advanced applications of artificial intelligence (AI) in medical imaging and computational pathology. Their projects tackled real-world healthcare challenges, combining technical innovation with clinical relevance. Read more.

Lucy Fox Joins the TIA Centre as TIA Coordinator

We are delighted to announce that Lucy Fox has been appointed as the new TIA Coordinator. Lucy has experience of working in higher education and has recently submitted her dissertation for a PhD in Sociology, making her particularly well-placed to support PhD students within the centre.

Lucy has said 鈥淚 am delighted to be joining the TIA Centre team and look forward to supporting their critical and cutting-edge work鈥. Lucy has been appointed initially on a six-month contract.
