Celebrating the University鈥檚 60th Anniversary with nature
We continued our celebration of the University鈥檚 60th Anniversary and nature with the latest 糖心TV at Night event, this time focusing on bats.

The fascinating illustrated talk by members of was an inspiring introduction to bat species in the UK and around the globe. We gained insight into their life cycle that is now affected by climate change, and learnt about the extraordinary abilities of these flying mammals.
It was alarming to hear that despite their invaluable ecosystem services as pollinators, seed dispersers and pest control agents, they are threatened by persecution, habitat destruction and through of the use of pesticides, just to mention a few reasons.
We were, therefore, very pleased to come across soprano pipistrelles, common pipistrelles, noctules and Daubenton's bats during our walk around Tocil Lake. It was amazing to see their aerial acrobatics and watch a Daubenton鈥檚 bat hunt above the water.
The University strives to maintain and improve the green spaces on campus to enable wildlife to thrive, which in turn can boost the mental and physical wellbeing of students, staff and all visitors using the site. This also aligns with our Nature Positive Universities pledge, which we signed earlier this year.
