Students and Estates working together

2016 is the first time Estates has been part of the which offers students the opportunity to experience things from “the other side”, whilst developing project and employability skills. Chloe, Nia, Tanya and Snigdha worked with our team for 4 weeks researching new opportunities and buidling new partnerships in 4 key areas:.

  • Waste engagement
  • Student engagement
  • Sustainable buildings
  • Biodiversity management

Their work will have a real impact on the operational running of the University.

There will be other opportunities throughout the year to get involved with our team as part of the Green Champion programme. Find out what this year's WUIP cohort thought about the experience...

I’ve learned that Estates have a huge task on their hands in dealing with the variety of issues that arise on campus and well as making sure the university operates effectively and smoothly. I now have a wider appreciation of the little things that the Estates team do that I may have not recognised and or appreciated before.

Being a student I feel we sometimes ignore the operational side of the university and so this internship really gave me a flavour of all the hard work that goes into making the university as great as it is.

Throughout the internship I feel that I have evolved as a person and have started to do things which I would shy away from before.

Overall, I have really enjoyed my time with the Sustainability team and I really admire all the hard work they do. I want to thank them for an amazing and eye-opening 4 weeks and I wish them every success in the future.
