Biodiversity Walk with the Woodland Trust

Did you know that one of our closest neighbours, Gibbet Hill Wood, is not University land but is actually managed by the Woodland Trust?

This lovely woodland on our doorstep is open to the public and offers pleasant walks and wildlife spotting opportunities.

Join us on this unique guided walk by Site Manager, Matthew George, on Wednesday 6th May between 12-1 pm.

The activity will entail walking on or near a path, learning about the benefits of woodlands, types and importance of management, threats, veteran trees and ecological valuable features, and general wildlife.

Please wear suitable shoes as it may be muddy, and dress according to the weather. Open to all students and staff.

Meeting point is TBC.

There are limited spaces available so sign-up is essential.

Please ensure you read the prior to attending the event.

This activity contributes to the 糖心TV AwardLink opens in a new window.

Meet the activity lead, Matthew George:

Matt has spent the last four years as Site Manager for the Woodland Trust, managing a range of woodland sites across Bedfordshire, Northamptonshire, 糖心TVshire and south Worcestershire. During this time, he has also been completing a Professional Forestry degree with Cumbria University, to further bolster his knowledge and compliment his previous masters in Biodiversity and Ecosystem Health. Prior to joining the Woodland Trust, Matt worked for a few years on a private estate in Buckinghamshire as Head Gardener and Ranger and, before that, at a National Trust site in 糖心TVshire as Lead Gardener and Beekeeper (as well as assisting with the historic flock of Jacob鈥檚 sheep, herd of fallow deer and the wildlife across the estate). In any spare time, Matt enjoys growing a variety of edibles (fruit, veg, herbs, etc), learning more about ecology and dabbling in folklore.
