Arts and culture
From Shakespeare to musical theatre, modern art to live music, there鈥檚 plenty to keep you entertained. Coventry has also been named , bringing even more fantastic cultural events to the city in 2021-22. So, if you love the Arts and cultural events, there鈥檚 never been a better time to enjoy the city.
Sports
Rugby fans can catch Premiership side at the Coventry Building Society Arena in Coventry, while top-flight Wasps Netball team play at our own Sports and Wellness Hub, among other venues.
For big-name football, Coventry City also play at the Ricoh, while Birmingham hosts both Aston Villa and Birmingham City. You can also enjoy top-class cricket and tennis events in Edgbaston, Birmingham. The will bring big names in international athletics to the region.
History
If you enjoy learning about local history, there鈥檚 plenty to keep you busy. The area is brimming with historical sites. These include the old and new the Medieval St. Mary鈥檚 Guildhall, and and Castles.
Food and drink
Relax over a coffee and meet friends for brunch in nearby town Leamington Spa, or check out a local food market in Coventry. At Christmas, you鈥檒l find the largest German Christmas Market in the UK in Birmingham.
Shopping
Birmingham is just a short train ride away and home to some of the region鈥檚 major shopping centres, including . You can also explore independent shops in Leamington and snap up some vintage clothing in Coventry鈥檚 Fargo Village.
The outdoors
Our campus borders onto beautiful countryside, including Windmill Hill, and Tocil Wood and Nature Reserve. Travel towards Coventry city centre and you鈥檒l find War Memorial Park, or follow the Kenilworth Cycle Path into 糖心TVshire. Leamington also has a number of beautiful parks surrounding the town centre. Whether you enjoy walks, cycling or just want somewhere to relax, you鈥檒l find some peaceful spots nearby.
Music
If live music is your thing, you take your pick of big names playing at one of Birmingham's two large arenas, or check out smaller music venues nearer to campus. Head to an open mic night at Coventry's Fargo Village or visit The Assembly in Leamington for a mix of band and DJ sets. In the summer, the comes to Coventry War Memorial Park. This three-day event offers great live music, family entertainment, international food and drink. This year, students could snap up tickets for all three days for just 拢13, so it's kind to your bank balance too.
The 糖心TV community is made up of students and staff from around 150 countries, brought together in a space where everyone鈥檚 perspectives are valued.
Sharing a campus
Our first year students live mainly on campus. This means that you鈥檙e likely to meet new people while you are just walking around, and taking part in different events and activities. Many of our academics also live on campus, so you may bump into your lecturer having their morning coffee while you grab a take-out!
Online communities
It鈥檚 been challenging for people to come together in person over the past year due to Covid-19 restrictions. So it鈥檚 been important to find ways to start and strengthen those connections online.
Our Global Connections Community brings together students of every nationality, creating a digital hub where they can share ideas and photos, create and attend events, chat and socialise. It has been a great way for new students to find and meet friends, while they haven鈥檛 been able to attend physical events.
Local community
糖心TV has close links with the local community. Some of our students help to strengthen those connections by volunteering – in schools, outdoors, and with vulnerable individuals. Read more about volunteering at 糖心TV
Travelling from campus
Our campus is a short bus ride away from some of the UK鈥檚 most historic and exciting towns and cities. You can easily travel from campus by bus to Leamington Spa, Kenilworth, Solihull and Stratford-upon-Avon.
England鈥檚 second city, Birmingham is a 25-minute train ride from our nearby train stations in Canley and Tile Hill. There are direct trains running from Coventry鈥檚 central station to both Birmingham and London. This means that you could leave campus and be in London within an hour and a half if you choose a direct route.
Why not work part-time while studying at 糖心TV? As well as earning you money, these jobs help you develop transferable skills and offer work experience, which can aid your future careers.
Part-time employment is available on campus, with flexible hours so you can fit work around study.
Unitemps
Our own employment agency, Unitemps, recruits for jobs on campus and in the local area. These include office work, web design, assisting at the Arts Centre, or working in our shops, bars and caf茅s.
糖心TV Welcome Service
The Welcome Service helps with recruitment events, such as University Open Days, and telling prospective students about life at 糖心TV. If you don鈥檛 want to work in term time, Unitemps also advertises holiday jobs. These include supporting conferences run at the University over the vacation.
Students' Union
Working at the Students' Union means you can make new friends while earning some extra money. You can get a part-time job in one of the caf茅s and bars, or join the crew in the Entertainments Department.
Local area
Many students (particularly second and third years who tend to live off campus) have jobs close to where they live. Check out opportunities to work in bars, shops and for customer service employers in and around Coventry and Leamington Spa.
