The Global Illuminations Procession, part of the 60th Anniversary celebrations, is taking place on Wednesday 19th November, with a light procession making its way through central campus from approx. 17:00 – 19:00 following the route below. We are expecting around 1500 students, staff, and members of the local community to take part and anticipate the procession taking between 60 to 90 minutes.

The nature of the approved route will mean there will be traffic delays on the evening. On this day we would advise that you avoid parking on central campus in car parks 15 (NAIC), 8/8a (Junction) & 6 (Health Centre) if you will need to leave campus after 17:00. Cryfield Village, Kirby Corner and Westwood will not be affected. Lynchgate car park could be used as an alternative as it is a very close walk to central campus and has an easy exit route away from the procession.

To support the logistics of students moving into their accommodation during student arrival weekend, the following car parks will be closed or restricted:

Tuesday 19th - Sunday 24th September:

Thursday 21st - Sunday 24th September:

• Sherbourne blocks 1-6

Alternative parking provision can be located on our where to park map: /services/carparks/whereLink opens in a new window. Car Park 15, Lynchgate Car Park and Car Park 12 are unaffected and therefore we recommend staff park here.

Between 7pm – 12am, Saturday 13^th May, all vehicle traffic within Central Campus will be required to exit through the Scarman Roundabout to support the Eurovision Song Contest live final show being shown at the Piazza.

Limited access to Health Centre Road will be provided for essential requirements only, please talk to a member of staff who will be able to offer guidance.

Student Arrivals – Parking Restrictions

The University has started welcoming students to our campus accommodation for the new academic year, with the majority expected to arrive between Thursday 22nd and Sunday 25th September. This is a significant logistical operation and involves collaboration between the Community Safety Team, ÌÇÐÄTV Accommodation, Estates, and the Welcome Team. During this time we are asking staff to avoid certain car parks which will be used by students and those travelling to campus with them. Please click on this news item for further information.

This summer we have a spectacular line up of celebrations happening on campus. There will be our traditional Degree Congregations, ÌÇÐÄTV Celebrates events (for those who graduated in absentia in 2020 and 2021). We’ll also be taking part in the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, providing an Athletes village, and co-hosting the International Children's Games.
