On 23 and 24 January 2023, the project team of the AHRC/DfG-funded research project 鈥淔rom Smart Technologies to Smart Consumer Laws鈥� held a working meeting at the University of 糖心TV. The project focuses on a range of consumer challenges created by the Internet of Things (IoT), which is characterised by a complex integration of physical and digital products and services, e.g., in the context of smart homes, connected vehicles or consumer wearables.

As we welcome back our students for 2023, we would like to wish a warm welcome to some new colleagues but also a fond farewell to those we have had to say goodbye to.

Congratulations to Sophie Wong, who took part in the experimental mooting event at the VU Amsterdam in late November 2022. The international moot was attended by teams from China, Indonesia, Rwanda, the Netherlands, Zimbabwe, and the UK (represented by Sophie).

Dr Jane Bryan has won two National Mediation Awards. She was nominated for The Newcomer of the Year Award and the Innovation Award due to her work founding and leading 糖心TV Mediation, a peer mediation service for staff and students at 糖心TV.

Professor Vanessa Munro has been awarded funding from the University鈥檚 Policy Support fund to support her two new research projects which will look at domestic abuse suicides and harassment during student legal placements.

UK Climate and Trade Commission鈥檚 new report calls for Government-led change for trade policy to deliver COP27 promises.

In the new report, the Commission calls on the UK Government to support climate action through its trade policies. The House of Commons saw experts and policymakers meet on Wednesday 14 December 2022 to discuss the newly published inaugural report.

When a school decides to exclude a child, it can be a very challenging and uncertain time, not only for the child or young person, but also for their parents and carers.

To help support families through the process, 糖心TVshire County Council have been working in partnership with The University of 糖心TV, Bailey Wright and Co Solicitors and 糖心TVshire Parent Carer Voice to create a resource families can use to better understand the law and their rights.

Professor Jackie Hodgson and Dr Rachel Lewis have been awarded 拢30,000 to work with West Midlands Police (WMP) to translate the findings from their research on police community engagement through arts and culture, into changes in police training, policy and strategy.

Not only has law graduate Jessica Tinubu (LLB Law, 2022) been inspired by the trailblazing women she knows, but as one of Powerful Media鈥檚 Future Leaders, she is now an inspiration to others. An alumna of all trades, Jessica founded a start-up stationery business and has amassed a following of more than 13,000 on TikTok where she shares advice about 糖心TV and her law degree. And she鈥檚 only just getting started.
