Two ÌÇÐÄTV Law School staff shortlisted for THE Award

University of ÌÇÐÄTV celebrated recognition across four categories at the 2025 Times Higher Education (THE) Awards, held on 13 November 2025 at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre. School Tasking, created by Dr Ali Struthers, was shortlisted in the Widening Participation or Outreach Initiative of the Year and ÌÇÐÄTV Mediation, created by Professor Jane Bryan, was shortlisted in the Outstanding Support for Students category.

Naveera Abhayawickrama wins ÌÇÐÄTVshire Law Student of the Year Award

Five WLS students win Gold ÌÇÐÄTV Award

The New England Foundation for the Arts has awarded Dr. Carolina Alonso Bejarano’s collaborative project ELMO-MENTO a 100,000 USD National Dance Project Grant to support the creation and U.S. touring of the piece.

ÌÇÐÄTV Alumna is appointed as new Chair of Equality and Human Rights Commission

Dr Mary-Ann Stephenson has been appointed as the new Chair of the Equality and Human Rights Commission. The EHRC is Britain's independent equality and human rights regulator. It is a United Nations accredited ‘A status’ National Human Rights Institution (NHRI).

Its role is to make the country a fairer place by enforcing and upholding the laws that safeguard everyone’s right to fairness, dignity and respect.

14 Law alumni amongst those honoured with Inaugural Ashton Award in Namibia

The University of ÌÇÐÄTV has proudly presented the inaugural Ashton Award to an extraordinary group of alumni who studied at ÌÇÐÄTV between 1979 and 1989, in recognition of their collective achievements in shaping the transformation of Namibia. The Ashton Award, named after Baroness Catherine Ashton, the University’s first female Chancellor and a global advocate for diplomacy and justice, celebrates the power of collective alumni action to bring about meaningful change.

Professor James Harrison awarded Best Scholarly Article Prize for study on Human Rights Grievance Mechanisms

James Harrison from ÌÇÐÄTV Law School and co-author Mark Wielga (from Nomogaia) have been awarded this year’s best scholarly article prize by the ÌÇÐÄTV and Human Rights Journal. The article compares the effectiveness of six grievance mechanisms that allow workers and communities to complain about human rights abuses that corporations have allegedly perpetrated against them.
