How do I use this calendar?

You can click on an event to display further information about it.

The toolbar above the calendar has buttons to view different events. Use the left and right arrow icons to view events in the past and future. The button inbetween returns you to today's view. The button to the right of this shows a mini-calendar to let you quickly jump to any date.

The dropdown box on the right allows you to see a different view of the calendar, such as an agenda or a termly view.

If this calendar has tags, you can use the labelled checkboxes at the top of the page to select just the tags you wish to view, and then click "Show selected". The calendar will be redisplayed with just the events related to these tags, making it easier to find what you're looking for.

Innovate UK, via the Advanced Propulsion Centre, invites applications for its advancing the UK’s low carbon automotive capability. This aims to significantly reduce carbon dioxide emissions and improve air quality. The projects must focus on technologies directly linked with the long-term development of zero-emission capability, such as motors, batteries, power electronics, hybridisation, and alternative propulsion systems. The projects’ primary application should be for the automotive industry and for projects that support the UK’s long-term capabilities in the design, build and manufacture of zero-emission vehicles. The project must be focused on one or more of the following technology areas:

•alternative propulsion systems;

•electric machines and power electronics;

•energy storage and energy management;

•lightweight vehicle and powertrain structures;

•thermal propulsion systems.

Active UK-based businesses may apply. Projects must be collaborative and business-led. Consortiums must include a vehicle manufacturer or a tier 1 supplier, and an SME. Non-UK may apply if they set up an active UK business base before project start, and if they provide evidence that they intend to expand their R&D activity in the UK beyond the life of the project. Research organisations are not eligible to lead a project, but may participate.

The total budget for this round is £20 million. Total eligible project costs range from £5m to £40m for a period of between 18 and 42 months. Small businesses may receive up to 70 per cent of the total eligible costs, medium-sized businesses may receive up to 60 per cent and large businesses may receive up to 50 per cent for industrial research. Small businesses may receive up to 45 per cent of the total eligible costs, medium-sized businesses may receive up to 35 per cent and large businesses may receive up to 25 per cent for experimental development projects which are nearer to market.

The Science and Technology Facilities Council invites applications for its PATT travel grants. These provide travel and subsistence support for telescope time at STFC’s astronomy facilities.

Applicants must be permanent members of staff or otherwise hold a fully tenured post within an eligible UK institution. Observers must be eligible to use the funds awarded in support of an approved programme of observations provided that they must be one of the following:

•the principal investigator, or co-investigator or their nominated representative;

•employed as a research assistant or researcher co-investigator on a research grant;

•students attached to an eligible institution whose credentials have firmly established them as bona fide observers.

Funds are provided for groups that have an expenditure that exceeds £5,000 per year over two years.

The Simons Foundation invites letters of intent for its collaborations in mathematics and the physical sciences programme. This aims to stimulate progress on fundamental scientific questions of importance in mathematics, theoretical physics and theoretical computer science. Projects should address a mathematical or theoretical topic of fundamental scientific importance, where a new development creates a novel area for exploration or provides a new direction for progress in an established field. Projects should demonstrate a high level of collaboration.

Each collaboration should consist of a director and a team of PIs. Researchers at a range of career stages are encouraged to apply. The collaboration director should hold a faculty position or equivalent at a US or Canadian institution with a PhD programme. PIs must also hold a faculty position or equivalent at an educational institution. PIs and other collaboration participants may be from non-US institutions.

Up to two awards, worth USD 2 million each per year for four years, are available.
