*** This opportunity will be available soon. The next call is expected to open in summer 2018. The following information is subject to change. ***

The Simons Foundation invites letters of intent for its collaborations in mathematics and the physical sciences programme. This aims to stimulate progress on fundamental scientific questions of importance in mathematics, theoretical physics and theoretical computer science. Projects should address a mathematical or theoretical topic of fundamental scientific importance, where a new development creates a novel area for exploration or provides a new direction for progress in an established field. Projects should demonstrate a high level of collaboration.

Each collaboration should consist of a director and a team of PIs. Researchers at a range of career stages are encouraged to apply. The collaboration director should hold a faculty position or equivalent at a US or Canadian institution with a PhD programme. PIs must also hold a faculty position or equivalent at an educational institution. PIs and other collaboration participants may be from non-US institutions.

Two awards are expected to be available, worth USD 2 million each per year for four years and with the possibility of a three year extension. Funding may be used for salary support, travel to conferences or meetings, support for visitors and collaborators, equipment and supplies and collaboration-related domestic or international travel.
