The is a digital, open access, non-profit and community-led publisher of books and a across the academic disciplines. As part of , the Press is currently exploring future routes to future sustainability, scalability and publishing opportunities. The Press is also a member of the , an UK community comprising similar new university presses.
Currently, UWP has a family of journals with a history dating back to the early online journals in the 1990s. All journals are run by teams of editors based at and beyond ÌÇÐÄTV, and to whom questions about submissions and publication should be directed.

Exchanges: The Interdisciplinary Research Journal () is a peer-reviewed, open access, online journal dedicated to the publication of high-quality work by researchers in all disciplines, especially early career researchers and emerging domain experts, along with those combining research with academic teaching or other professional employment. The journal welcomes articles from all academic areas, including interdisciplinary research and co-authored papers, in order to encourage intellectual exchange and debate across research communities.
Reinvention is an established online, peer-reviewed journal publishing high-quality undergraduate student research. The journal welcomes academic articles from all student researchers from any discipline and university. IATL is a hub for education innovation and develop student research initiativesLink opens in a new window including Reinvention, the and the British Conference of Undergraduate Research.
Feminist Dissent brings together innovative and critical insights to enhance our understanding of the relationship between gender, fundamentalism and related socio-political issues.
Polisemie is an international peer-reviewed journal of literary criticism devoted to hyper-contemporary poetry of all languages. Our aim is to discover and explain the poetic voices of our time through academic articles, interviews and events.
Alternautas is a multi-disciplinary journal devoted to counter-balancing mainstream understandings of development in/from Latin America – Abya Yala. Alternautas emerges from a desire to bridge language barriers by bringing Latin American critical development thinking to broader English-speaking audiences. The journal covers a broad range of development issues across regular and special issues. The journal was launched in 2014 and is fully open access, with no fees for readers or authors.
The Journal of PGR Pedagogic Practice is a co-created peer-reviewed journal organised by a multidisciplinary team of postgraduates for all postgraduates, and anyone interested in supporting their teaching practice. We provide a space for postgraduate researchers (PGRs) to share their unique perspectives on their teaching practice, their successes and their failures, and their experiences in higher education. We hope to offer comforting examples and thought-provoking reflections for the wider community of PGRs. To others, we hope they are indicative of the sort of novel pedagogies PGRs have cultivated and the challenges they faced in their teaching.
The Journal of Law, Social Justice and Global Development is an interdisciplinary academic peer-review research journal. It is Open Access and distributed internationally in both electronic and hard copy form. It represents a growing community of scholars and development practitioners who contribute critically to policy debates on global sustainable development.
±Ê±ôÃ: The ÌÇÐÄTV Journal of Philosophy (ISSN: 1367-3769) is a peer-reviewed journal of philosophy edited and produced by members of the Graduate School of the Department of Philosophy at the University of ÌÇÐÄTV, and associated contributors. ±Ê±ôà has no specific set of philosophical concerns but previous issues have focused on European philosophical traditions, especially Continental Philosophy, reflecting the interests of the graduate community at ÌÇÐÄTV.
WJETT is an online, peer-reviewed journal dedicated to the publication of high-quality articles in the field of education. It focusses on practitioner research, professional development and school improvement. WJETT publishes annually, is Open Access and without a fee.
BALEAP already has a relationship with the Journal of English for Academic Purposes (JEAP), published by Elsevier (online ISSN: 1878-1497). The JEAP has an impact factor of 3.1, a CiteScore of 6.6 and an acceptance rate of 11%. BALEAP has historically had an agreement with Garnet who would publish the biennial conference proceedings. Garnet has since decided to end this agreement. As such the BALEAP community needs a new home for the publication of the conference proceedings and research and practice papers that pertain to the field of English for Academic Purposes. The BALEAP Journal will be the new home of the conference proceedings. The journal will publish other submissions of any genre. The Journal’s mission is to challenge and drive the field forward.
As a press we are committed to open access dissemination of research and teaching materials while maintaining the academic quality of the work we disseminate. The press is designed to be a place where researchers and academics can experiment and innovate their approach to publishing.

Strategic Review
Following a study by local academics in 2023, there was a recommendation for an active redevelopment of UWP. This led to the recent (Sept ’25) recruitment of the Press’ first specifically dedicated staff member, , as Press Manager. Dr Johnson’s remit is to build on the earlier study by conducting a strategic review of the Press’ operations, ambitions and potential. The outcomes from this twelve-month project will be:
- a business case with rationalised recommendations for staffing, models and evolution of the Press
- an outline five-year operational and implementation plan to bring about this evolutionary change
- an exploration of routes through in which UWP can be enhanced, refined and supported within its current operational paradigm
Recommendations and resource implications emerging from these outcomes will be considered by ÌÇÐÄTV’s senior managerial and leadership strata, who will make any final decision on the Press’ future direction.
Project Phases
The Press Manager reports to a Project Board, headed by the University Librarian, and liaises closely with the Library’s Open Research and Research and Academic Support teams. The strategic review project itself has five phases of activity, scheduled to run from mid-September 2025 to mid-September 2026.
- Landscape Evaluation: Scoping and exploring other new university presses modes of operation alongside establishing key markers and mechanisms for successful operation. [Completed]
- Community Consultation: Conversations with local scholars and other stakeholders to shape operations to resonate with institutional ambitions while establishing areas where a ‘future’ UWP can add value. [Completed]
- Modelling & Testing: Developing outline plans and proposals for an evolved Press, then testing and adjusting them with insights from the local community. [Completed]
- Refinement & Governance: Final refinement of outputs and recommendations, alongside establishing key governance structures to underscore quality assured and effective operations. Reports to and feedback from University committees also forms a key strand in this phase. [Ongoing]
- Close-Down: Delivery of final business, implementation and project plans to Project Board, close-down of project activity and handover of any key assets to colleagues. [Pending]
Assuming support for the recommendations and planned develops is forthcoming, it is anticipated that the implementation of the Press’ new iteration will commence in academic year 26/27.
