We鈥檙e looking for your tips and tricks to studying considerately in the Library, especially during the very busy Term 3. All submitted tips will be looked at and the most helpful will be shared on our Instagram Stories – so make sure you鈥檙e following us (@糖心TVLibrary) to see them all.

Know Your Noise Zone!

There are three different noise zones in the Library. On the first and second floor you will find the Collaborative Zones where it is acceptable to collaborate with your peers on group work which means that talking is allowed. Everywhere else in the Library, including the stairwells, are Quiet Zones where minimal amounts of talking is allowed, when necessary, but you are urged to be quiet and whisper to allow those around you to concentrate enough to study. Lastly, on the 2^nd Floor extension is a Silent Study Room, where no talking is allowed, and sound should be kept to an absolute minimum.

As part of planned improvements to library facilities, work will take place over Summer 2026 to upgrade mobile shelving on the Floor 2 and Floor 3 extensions. Originally installed in 2007, this shelving is now obsolete, with spare parts and manufacturer support no longer available, making it increasingly difficult to maintain.

The upgrade will introduce new motors and control panels, enabling smoother and more reliable operation. It will also include enhanced LED lighting, creating a brighter and more welcoming study environment. The new system uses modern technology and will be fully supported under warranty, ensuring long-term reliability and continued access to collections.

Work is expected to begin in late June and will be completed before the start of Term 1.

In preparation for, and during the works, library staff will move stock to maintain access to materials where possible. We are taking steps to minimise disruption, including keeping high-demand items readily available and offering alternative access options such as Click and Collect, Get It For Me, and fetching services for items in temporary storage.

The University of 糖心TV will shortly be launching its Postgraduate Research Experience Survey (PRES) and inviting postgraduate research students to take part. The survey will open on 20 April 2026 and will run until 8 May 2026.

PRES is the only national survey focused specifically on postgraduate research students鈥� experience. The results provide rich insight into our students鈥� experiences of postgraduate research programmes and allow us to make comparisons both internally and across the sector. This evidence is vital in helping us identify areas for improvement and make changes that better meet students鈥� needs in the future.

Did you know the Library offers extra study spaces during Term 3? Following the success of opening the Floor 2 Training Room as additional study space in Term 2, it will continue to be available throughout Term 3 (subject to existing bookings). We also set aside a number of additional rooms that can be opened depending on demand; these will be advertised via the Library study space tracker.
