Mobile shelving upgrades - Floors 2 and 3 extensions

Mobile shelving upgrades – main library

Works on upgrading the electronic mobile shelving in the library will begin on 29th June. The expectation is that two blocks of shelving will be closed off during each phase with works beginning on floor 2 extension.  While the works are underway there will be limited access to materials for Click and Collect requests. However, we will arrange access times with contractors so that materials can still be requested. There will be noise during the upgrades with works beginning on Floor 2 extension, impacting Science Journal collections, and the Science oversize and pamphlet collection.

The works will upgrade the existing Nordplan electrical system to Bruynzeel electronics. Nordplan systems are now obsolete and the availability of spares to support these systems diminishes on an ongoing basis. By upgrading to the Bruynzeel dynamic system we will be able to rewarranty the system and have access to spares and servicing for the future. Motors and control panels will be replaced and new LED lighting systems installed. The system will benefit from lower use of power and existing electrical connections will be replaced by standard 3 pin sockets.
