Balfour Beatty VINCI are working, in partnership with HS2 and National Highways, to construct the A46 box structure which will carry the new HS2 line under the A46 near Kenilworth. To prepare for the installation of the bridge in April 2025, there will be preparatory works in February 2025. To complete these works safely and efficiently, two temporary full weekend closures of the A46 in February will occur. A fully signed diversion route will be in place. The road will be closed over the following dates:

Full weekend closures

• From 8pm on Friday 7 February to 6am on Monday 10 February 2025
• From 8pm on Friday 14 February to 6am on Monday 17 February 2025

The A46 Northbound will be closed on Friday 25 October between 8.00pm and 6.00am for one night. Works will involve a full closure on the northbound carriageway between the Thickthorn Interchange (Leamington) and Stoneleigh Junction. For further information please click .

On the morning of Wednesday 24^th April 2024 the A46 will be reduce to two lanes between Stonebridge Highway Junction(Thickthorn) and the Kenilworth Road Junction (Stivichall). This is to allow the scheme to progress safely while contractors is working in the verges. The lane closures will remain in place until the evening of Sunday 11^th August 2024. Due to the reduction in road capacity please expect delays during peak times. Full overnight closures will be in place over the first two nights and final two nights to allow the safe installation of the traffic management, a signed diversion will be in place for the full closures.

In addition to these works, HS2 are constructing the A46 Box structure and will complete preparatory works by installing traffic management on the A46 between Thickthorn roundabout and A45 Stivichall Interchange. This traffic management is a combination of lane restrictions and overnight carriageway closures between May and October followed by a closure in early 2025 to install the new structure. From Monday 11th March 2024 (originally 4th March), Stoneleigh Road will be closed between the two A46 slip roads to allow the safe installation of new lighting columns as part of the bridge improvement works. The closure is scheduled to remain in place until the evening of Sunday 17th March 2024. For further information please visit the scheme website:

The works to allow the safe installation of a new parapet as part of the bridge improvement works are more complicated than expected, due to difficulties arising from the age of the structure. Survey works were carried out before works on site commence to inform the design, but these issues were only uncovered when the existing parapet was removed. It is not currently in a safe state to open.

The expected end date has been extended to the 17th December 2023, however the A46 team are aiming to open it earlier if possible.
