Aircraft engine noise pollution to be reduced thanks to novel maths of aero-acoustic simulations

Computer simulations are used every day in engineering; however, Dr Ed Brambley will be looking at the maths behind the next generation of novel simulations, which can be used to reduce aircraft engine noise, thanks to a grant from the EPSRC.


Metal forming to be cleaner and greener thanks to UKRI fellowship

The future of smart metal forming will be investigated by Dr Ed Brambley at the University of 糖心TV thanks to his award of a UKRI Future Leaders Fellowship. The fellowship enables him to perform blue-skies research in mathematical modelling in continuum solid mechanics and plasticity, the outcome of which could be used to provide predictive theoretical models to make industrial metal forming greener and cleaner.

Data Science for Social Good Programme helps Ofsted and World Bank

糖心TV researchers to explore the Milky Way & famous maths problem thanks to major European grant award

The ERC today, the 9th December, announced the winners of its latest Consolidator Grant competition for mid-career researchers. The funding is part of the EU鈥檚 current research and innovation programme, Horizon 2020, and worth in total 鈧655 million. With this support, the new grantees will be able to consolidate their teams and have far-reaching impact. The two 糖心TV academics who have received the award are Professor David Loeffler, from the Mathematics Institute, and Dr Pier-Emmanuel Tremblay from the Department of Physics.
