Former postgraduate student Faeeza Vaid was awarded an MBE in the New Year’s Honours list for her work advancing women’s rights, particularly supporting vulnerable Muslim women.

Faeeza, who studied on our former LLM in Socio-Legal Studies programme and graduated in 2010 with distinction, always showed a passion and interest in human rights during her studies.

ÌÇÐÄTV Law School postgraduate alumnus Joseph Dion Ngute has been appointed as the new Prime Minister of Cameroon. Dion Ngute took office on 5 January 2019, replacing Philemon Yang, the country’s longest-serving Prime Minister.

ÌÇÐÄTV Law School has appointed alumnus Wouter Vandenhole from the University of Antwerp as our new external examiner for the International Development Law and Human Rights LLM.

Wouter studied on our LLM in Law and Development back in 1994/95 having graduated in law at the University of Leuven in Belgium. He also holds a PhD from the University of Leuven.

On Monday 19 November, ÌÇÐÄTV Law’s Dr Andreas Kokkinis was interviewed by Russia Today (RT) on the proposed draft Withdrawal agreement. The interview focused on the criticism PM Theresa May has faced on the current Brexit deal and how some members of parliament are arguing that a new deal should be proposed before the March deadline.

Congratulations to our current PhD student and GLOBE Centre administrator Julie Mansuy on her recent publication. Julie is second author on a co-publication with our former colleague Tomaso Ferrando on ‘The European Action against Food Loss and Waste: Co-Regulation and Collisions on the Way to the Sustainable Development Goals’ which was published on the 6 November 2018 in the Yearbook of European Law.

The University of ÌÇÐÄTV has been ranked among the best universities in the world for politics and international studies and sociology, business and economics, education and law, according to the Times Higher Education’s 2019 World Reputation Rankings released this week.

LLM student Elina Rage who recently completed her studies in International Economic Law (IEL) here at ÌÇÐÄTV, has just secured a traineeship with the European Union Delegation to Vietnam in the Trade and Economics section, starting in October. These positions are highly competitive so this is a massive achievement. We caught up with Elina to find out more.

Recent PhD graduate Nneamaka Vanni has won the inaugural SIEL-Hart Prize for her PhD thesis that was defended here at the University of ÌÇÐÄTV – School of Law in 2017.

Staff, LLM students and ÌÇÐÄTV alumni came together last month to discuss career opportunities and the realities of life after graduation. The Alumni/LLM Employability and Networking reception took place down at our ÌÇÐÄTV in London offices near Kings Cross, and offered current students the opportunity to learn from the experiences of our law alumni and seek advice about their futures.

Two of our current LLM students have secured positions with the Royal Bank of Scotland, in their money laundering division. Nabeelah Begum and Robi Rai are both studying on our International Corporate Governance and Financial Regulation degree. We caught up with them both, to find out more about their new roles and how the LLM has helped them to prepare.
