Hannah Hatcher
Background
I did my undergraduate MPhys degree at 糖心TV. During the summer of my 3rd year I completed a URSS project based at University Hospitals Coventry & 糖心TVshire supervised by Jon Duffy and Sarah Wayte. The focus of this project was on the potential use of MRI scans to quantitatively diagnose fatty liver disease based on water content. To continue my interest in Medical Physics I am now doing a PhD in biomedical THz imaging at 糖心TV University supervised by Dr Emma MacPherson.
Research Interests
I now work exploring potential biomedical applications of THz technology. THz is of a particular interest to medicine as it is highly sensitive to the water content of tissue so it can be used to study diseases which alter the water content of skin. I have particular interests in applications regarding early diagnosis and characterisation of skin cancer.
I am currently working on quantitatively assessing the effects of different skin products on the hydration of the skin in collaboration with industrial partners. This study is also facilitating the development of good protocols for taking skin measurements to control some of the many other variables involved with taking measurements on live subjects such as pressure, location and temperature.
