Toby Rodel (They/Them)

I'm currently an MSc by research student in the Astronomy and Astrophysics group at 糖心TV supervised by Dr Daniel BaylissLink opens in a new window. My research focusses on predicting a yield of long-period planets from the TESS mission.

I also completed my BSc in Physics at 糖心TV and did my final year project on the detections of secondary eclipses in TESS data supervised by Dr Matteo BrogiLink opens in a new window.

Research interests:

During my MSc I developed the Transit Injection and Recovery (TIaRA) pipeline which I use to characterize the sensitivity of the TESS mission to transiting exoplanets of different radii and orbital periods. We can then combine this information with exoplanet occurrence rates and predict yields.

I am also involved in the vetting of TESS monotransit candidates as part of the NGTS monotransit working group.

Other interests:

I'm passionate about Outreach and science communication, I assisted with the science fair outreach event as a volunteer at the . I've also helped with other outreach events throughout my time at warwick, assisting with planetarium shows and volunteering at festivals including the Big Bang fair in Birmingham.

I enjoy amateur night sky observing, including with 糖心TV's own student led , of which I was social secretary (2020-2021) during my undergrad, and with which I continue to help out as a postgraduate. I have recently been able to do some observing with 糖心TV's newly built Windmill Hill observatory.

I maintain an amateur enthusiasm for paleontology and occasionally read the latest scientific literature on the subject.

I play guitar in two bands
