No deadline - available while funds last The Royal Astronomical Society and the Office of Astronomy for Development invite applications for their astro4dev grants. These aim to establish and nurture research, educational and development-related collaborations between the UK and countries where astronomy research is not well established. Scientists, engineers or educators either based in the UK or willing to travel to the UK may apply. Grants are usually worth up to £1,000 each for visits lasting at least one week. |

Prize: Funded by the of that name in recognition of the skills provided to the financial services sector by trained astronomers and geophysicists, the Winton Capital prizes (each of £1,000) are for research by a Post Doctoral Fellow in a UK institution in respectively astronomy and geophysics whose career has shown the most promising development. At the time of nomination candidates, in normal circumstances, should have completed their PhD (defined as passing the viva examination) no more than 5 years previously. This time limit will not restrict the award of the prize to an individual who has taken maternity or paternity leave, who has taken a career break, for example for family reasons, or who has followed another |

The EPSRC Manufacturing the Future theme will issue a series of batching dates during 2017 and 2018 for investigator-led proposals. Submitted proposals will either be considered at a manufacturing-focussed prioritisation panel (if there is sufficient demand) or via a separate list at an Engineering panel. Proposals should address key research challenges facing manufacturing in the UK today and in the future. This activity is intended to highlight the theme’s long term ambition to increase the number of investigator-led research ideas we support. To be considered for a panel in autumn 2017 proposals should be submitted before 31 July 2017. To be considered for the panel in early 2018 proposals should be submitted by 03 October 2017. A Manufacturing Panel will be held in early 2018 to align with a parallel highlight notice (to be announced separately). Proposals submitted after these dates, or those that do not have sufficient reviews in time for the panel, will be assessed by the most appropriate panel at a later date The Manufacturing the Future theme has prioritised funding to support investigator-led research projects in manufacturing, with up to £3.2 million per panel available (dependent on demand and quality of proposals). Should there be insufficient demand we reserve the right for proposals to be considered at the most appropriate capability theme panel meeting |

The Institute of Physics and Engineering in Medicine invites applications for its innovation grants. These support short term innovation and research projects in the application of physics and engineering to medicine and biology, including healthcare practice, medical device design, research and teaching. A wide interpretation is permitted in the definition of innovation. Full members and fellows of the institute may apply. Grants are worth up to £10,000 each towards purchase of equipment and services. |

Prize The Institute of Physics’ liquids and complex fluids group invites nominations for its early career award. This recognises an early-career scientist working in the broadly defined area of liquids and complex fluids. Nominees should be members of the group and have made a substantial contribution to the development or reputation of physics in the UK or Ireland. They should be in the first 12 years of their career following the award of their first degree. The prize is worth £250. |

PRIZE The Royal Astronomical Society invites nominations for the Fowler awards. These are awarded to individuals who have made a noteworthy contribution to the astronomical and geophysical sciences at an early stage of their research career. Nominees may be of any nationality, however significant parts of the work should have been carried out in the UK or with facilities in which the UK has a recognised interest. They should have completed their PhD no more than 10 years preceding the time of application. Two prizes, worth £500 each, are available. |
