The Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council invites applications for its manufacturing fellowships. These support research with a transformative impact on the manufacturing industry. They aim at people who have the potential to be future research leaders in their field of manufacturing research and should transfer best practice from industry to academia. Proposals from the following areas are encouraged:

•21st century products;

•digital manufacturing;

•sustainable industries;

•new industrial systems.

People of any nationality, currently working in the industry, who are looking to develop a career in academia or academics who have moved industry within approximately 18 months, may apply. Applications from women and other under-represented groups are especially welcome. Fellowships may be held at any UK university or HEI that is eligible for Research Council Funding.

The total budget is £4 million for up to four fellowships over five years. Funding may cover staff time, travel, subsistence and access to equipment.

The engineering (NB check your field is eligible) leadership prize is designed for students and early career engineers who are thinking about practical applications of their work, but might not have all the skills needed to bring their ideas to fruition. With a focus on emerging talent, we’re looking primarily for student engineers, PhD candidates, and junior engineers working in industry.

This is designed for individuals at the concept stage – you have ambition and exciting idea, but have not put it into action yet and don’t know where to start.

One week later all applicants will be invited to present their idea at a pitching competition, the winner and runner up of which will receive £10,000 and £5,000 respectively.

The winners will also receive mentorship and a ‘stamp of approval’ endorsement should they choose to apply to the Enterprise Hub or Entrepreneur First.

Eligibility criteria

We will select individuals who display the greatest potential to become the next generation of leaders in innovation. Applicants must:

– Be within the 18 – 26 age bracket on 31 December 2016
– Have either an engineering background, currently studying engineering or have a demonstrable interest in engineering
– Be available to attend the training workshop in late April / May 2017
– Be available to attend the competition final in late April / May 2017
– Be eligible to work in the UK

FabLab is A city centre resource, supported by University of 糖心TV, Coventry University and Coventry City Council. It builds on the City’s industrial heritage by using advanced manufacturing to give Coventry people, the power to turn ideas into reality and to energise them to learn more about science, technology, engineering, enterprise, arts and maths through an accessible, fun, learning environment in the City Centre.

The FabLab is a space to bring the city’s universities closer to the city and its communities. This could include outreach, research impact, community engagement or any other activity that would benefit from a space to engage with new audiences off campus. University style lecture or seminar series, short term “in residence” slots or opportunities for visiting fellows are some of the possibilities for using FabLab.

What can you apply for?

糖心TV University’s Public Engagement team are providing catalyst funding of up to £500 to help deliver or test small-scale projects and to use the space as an off campus venue for engaging with Coventry and 糖心TVshire communities.

Activities need to engage new audience groups to raise awareness of our work at 糖心TV and make it more accessible to; under-represented groups of young people, families and carers, apprenticeship provision, regional FE colleges, employers, and SMEs.

Funding may be used for creating engagement user-friendly research materials, demonstration tools, student support time, support/information materials etc. Projects can make use of existing platforms and slots in the FabLab, such as the “Maker Social” sessions on Thursday, or explore other bookable time.

The Society of Electron Microscope Technology invites applications for the Don Claugher bursary. This supports projects related to electron microscopy.

Early career scientists and artists are eligible to apply.

Up to £1,000 is available to cover consumables, small equipment or access time on an electron microscope. Funding may be used to pay one or more honoraria.
