How do I use this calendar?

You can click on an event to display further information about it.

The toolbar above the calendar has buttons to view different events. Use the left and right arrow icons to view events in the past and future. The button inbetween returns you to today's view. The button to the right of this shows a mini-calendar to let you quickly jump to any date.

The dropdown box on the right allows you to see a different view of the calendar, such as an agenda or a termly view.

If this calendar has tags, you can use the labelled checkboxes at the top of the page to select just the tags you wish to view, and then click "Show selected". The calendar will be redisplayed with just the events related to these tags, making it easier to find what you're looking for.

Early Career Researcher Opportunity

The Ernest Rutherford Fellowships will enable early career researchers with clear leadership potential to establish a strong, independent research programme. They will encourage talented researchers in UK universities to remain in the country and at the same time attract outstanding overseas researchers to the UK.

An analysis of Fellows who have completed their Fellowship since 2006, disclosed all Fellows were employed and held permanent jobs. Further details showing the key benefits of a Fellowship can be found in the .

Each Fellowship will last for five years, with up to 12 being offered annually. The aim is to support future scientific leaders to establish a strong, independent research programme.

Ernest Rutherford Fellowships are intended for early career researchers who do not have an academic position.

Applicants must have a PhD and a minimum of five years’ research experience from the start of the postgraduate programme leading to the award of a PhD and 1 September 2017 with, normally, a minimum of two years’ postdoctoral experience.

The Ernest Rutherford Grant Funding scheme is no longer available for successful fellowship applicants.

The Call for applications to the Space Technology Grants for Exploratory Ideas (GEIs) projects as part of the National Space Technology Programme (NSTP) is now open.

This NSTP Call aims to develop the capability of the UK space sector by providing seed funding for early stage innovative ideas. Project proposals are sought for space technology research and development projects in areas including: early Technology Readiness Level (TRL) innovation; technology proof of concept; small technology developments; establishing new industrial research collaborations; market studies; or studies into spin in or out of technologies for space.

The UK Space Agency welcomes proposals from industry and academia for space technology research and development projects which must align with the National Space Technology Strategy and the related technology roadmaps covering the 5 main themes:

  • telecommunications
  • sensing
  • position, navigation and timing
  • exploration and robotics
  • access to space

The UK Space Agency invites applications for its education and outreach opportunity. This enables organisations to run schemes that support the education and outreach aims and objectives of the UK Space Agency’s exploration programme. It aims to build upon the agency’s investment in earth observation, the satellite launch programme and the James Webb space telescope, as well as other programme areas, although these will be given lower priority. Proposals may link to any element of these areas, including:

•computing and digital programmes;

•engineering;

•science;

•other topics where space provides the context for learning.

The total budget is worth up to £140,000 to fund between two and four awards. Funding may cover contributions to salaries, costs of materials and travel and subsistence.
