How do I use this calendar?

You can click on an event to display further information about it.

The toolbar above the calendar has buttons to view different events. Use the left and right arrow icons to view events in the past and future. The button inbetween returns you to today's view. The button to the right of this shows a mini-calendar to let you quickly jump to any date.

The dropdown box on the right allows you to see a different view of the calendar, such as an agenda or a termly view.

If this calendar has tags, you can use the labelled checkboxes at the top of the page to select just the tags you wish to view, and then click "Show selected". The calendar will be redisplayed with just the events related to these tags, making it easier to find what you're looking for.

The Fellowship Programme awards approximately 220 Fellowships per year. Around 60 positions are in particle physics research (experimental or theoretical physics) under a Senior Fellowship and the remainder are for advanced development work and related research in a broad range of applied science, computing and engineering either under a Junior or a Senior Fellowship depending on the qualifications and experience of the individual. Fellowships are intended for recent graduates from university or higher technical institutes, or university postgraduates who want to work in a research group. Research fellows in experimental or theoretical physics normally have terminated their studies for a doctorate (PhD or equivalent) while Fellowships in applied science, computing and engineering are open to recent graduates at Bachelor level and above. Fellowships are normally granted for two years initially, while extensions for part or all of a third year are granted only in exceptional circumstances.

After having become familiar with the activities of the Laboratory, Fellows are encouraged to contribute to bridging the gap between scientists and the general public by serving as CERN Guides typically 2 hours per month. For further details, please follow

UK Space Agency - General support technology programme – de-risking technologies development grants
https://www.gov.uk/government/news/uk-space-agency-announces-new-funding-for-industry

The UK Space Agency, in collaboration with the European Space Agency, and under ESA’s general support technology programme, invites applications for its de-risking technologies development grants. These are offered to the UK space sector to come up with innovative new technology. The purpose is to allow those interested in the programme to propose a project development in their area of interest directly to UK Space Agency and ESA, so that in turn the agencies support some of these new ideas straight away, and where appropriate form a basis for future discussion on support for continuing development of promising ideas.

The grants are aimed at smaller entry level projects, in both upstream and downstream, capable of de-risking technologies. The call excludes any activity proposals targeting opportunities in the satellite telecommunications value chain. There are collaboration opportunities with German companies through this call, but this is not a requirement. Activities proposed must be UK-led. Collaborations must be for technology development work and not consist in mere testing, procurement of equipment or hardware.

Grants are worth up to €200,000. In case of collaboration, the maximum amount remains €200,000.

Caitriona Jackman (Southampton): Dynamics of the magnetospheres of Jupiter and Saturn
PS128

Abstract: This talk will compare and contrast results from orbiter missions to Jupiter and Saturn to study the transport and loss of mass in these giant, rotationally-influenced magnetospheres. I will focus in particular on in situ observations of magnetic reconnection and the insights that this gives us into mass circulation and mass balance. I will also show how remote observations of radio emissions and auroral displays can give a global picture of magnetospheric dynamics. My talk will finish with a summary of what we have learned from the fantastically successful Cassini mission at Saturn, and what the Juno mission may tell us about Jupiter over the next few years.

CERN invites applications for its senior post-career break fellowship. This enables science and engineering graduates to restart their careers after taking time out for personal reasons.

Applications are invited from candidates with a senior profile. Senior applicants must have a master’s-level diploma or PhD with between four and 10 years relevant experience after the MSc. Those applying in experimental or theoretical physics must have a PhD, or be about to finish their thesis. Applicants should have been on a career break for personal reasons such as family or caring responsibilities or health issues for the last two years.

One full-time or two part-time fellowships are available for a period of two years, covering a stipend, insurance, travel expenses and family allowances.

The Science and Technology Facilities Council and the European Space Agency invite applications for the business support from the ESA business incubation centre – Harwell campus. This supports start-up companies in turning their ideas into profitable products and services using space technology, or developing technologies for use in space. Proposals must be based on space-related technology or expertise and target the non-space market.

Companies must be new or within five years of foundation.

Each company may receive over £40,000 of cash incentive for or design, prototyping, IP protection and market studies, and access to STFC’s test facilities, laboratories, workshops and technical expertise, including up to 40 hours of expert support and 40 hours per year of access to lab facilities. Additionally, companies receive access to business development support and a range of funding, investment and networking and collaboration sources.
