How do I use this calendar?

You can click on an event to display further information about it.

The toolbar above the calendar has buttons to view different events. Use the left and right arrow icons to view events in the past and future. The button inbetween returns you to today's view. The button to the right of this shows a mini-calendar to let you quickly jump to any date.

The dropdown box on the right allows you to see a different view of the calendar, such as an agenda or a termly view.

If this calendar has tags, you can use the labelled checkboxes at the top of the page to select just the tags you wish to view, and then click "Show selected". The calendar will be redisplayed with just the events related to these tags, making it easier to find what you're looking for.

This Fellowship provides the opportunity to build an independent research career. Those appointed are expected to be strong candidates for permanent posts in universities at the end of their fellowships.

It covers all areas of the life and physical sciences, including engineering, but excluding clinical medicine. Researchers addressing a direct biomedical research question should apply for a Sir Henry Dale Fellowship.

Suitable individuals of any nationality can apply for a University Research Fellowship to be held in an eligible UK host research organisation.

Am I eligible to apply?

You can apply for this scheme if you:

have a PhD (note we will not consider applicants who have just submitted their PhD)
are in the early stages of your research career and have between 3 to 8 years of research experience since your PhD by the closing date of the round (note career breaks are taken into account)
do not hold a permanent post in a university or not for profit research organisation
do not hold or previously have held a fellowship that provides an opportunity to establish an independent research group and therefore independent researcher status, i.e. that allows the applicant to submit research grants as a PI or be registered as the primary supervisor of a PhD student. For example, STFC Rutherford Fellowship, NERC Independent Research Fellowship, EPSRC Early Career Fellowship or BBSRC David Phillips Fellowship. (Note holders of postdoctoral fellowships such as MCSA can apply. Royal Society Dorothy Hodgkin Fellows who meet with the research experience eligibility requirements outlined above can also apply).

NB the deadline is 3pm and FlexiGrant system will be used so all supporting statements must be uploaded prior to submission.

CERN invites applications for its junior fellowships (BSc or MSc level entry). These enable researchers conducting advanced development work and related research in applied science, computing and engineering, to spend time working in a research group at CERN. An integrated graduate engineering training scheme is available for engineering graduates looking for professional experience in a wide range of engineering and technical fields.

Applicants must hold at least a technical engineering degree or equivalent, and at most an MSc or equivalent, with no more than four years of experience. Candidates who are currently preparing a diploma may apply, provided that they will obtain their qualification by the time they take up the appointment. Nationals of CERN member states may apply.

Stipends are worth between CHF 5,165 and CHF 7,963 per month, for between six and 24 months, with a possible extension of up to three years in total.
