EPSRC Encore call for feasibility studiesThe Engineering an Physical Sciences Research Council invites applications for its feasibility studies, under its ENCORE Network+ project. This aims to explore the opportunities presented by the developments in complexity science to improve the resilience and performance of complex engineering systems, such as cities, energy and digital systems, space launch and recovery systems an jet engines. Individuals and groups with affiliation to UK universities may apply. The total budget is worth up to £40,000. Four to eight feasibility studies will be funded for a duration of up to six months. Projects must start no later than 5 June 2017 and applicants are encouraged to explore the possibility of matched funding. |

The Royal Society invites applications for its pairing scheme. This aims to give policy makers and research scientists an opportunity to experience each other’s worlds. Research scientists are paired with UK parliamentarians and civil servants to learn about each other’s work by spending time together in Westminster and at the researchers’ institutions. The scheme begins with a Week in Westminster in which the pairs first meet and take part in workshops, hear from invited speakers and spend two days shadowing their pair. Then the parliamentarians and civil servants to get an insight into the world of research by undertaking reciprocal visits with their pairs. Scientists across all science, technology, engineering, medicine and mathematics disciplines working in academia or industry are eligible to apply. They must have at least two years’ postdoctoral research experience or equivalent research experience in industry. Applicants should also be able to demonstrate good communication skills and an ability to communicate their research to a lay audience. 30 research scientists per year are expected to participate in the scheme. |

The Royal Society hosts a . Each meeting is organised by leaders in the field, using their expertise to ensure the key topics are covered. The focus on discussion throughout the meeting allows everyone, at any stage of their scientific career, to get involved in the conversation. Our scientific programme offers a unique opportunity for you to present an international, two-day conference in your field, with the chance for publication in Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society following the event. Responding to the needs of the scientific community through an open call, proposing a Royal Society scientific meeting will allow you to influence the agenda in your area |
