NB One application per institution - please express your interest to HOD in plenty of time for submission by 28th Feb.

The Leverhulme Trust invites applications to its research leadership awards. These support researchers with established university careers who wish to build a research team of sufficient scale to address a distinct research problem. The aim is to create an opportunity for the development and demonstration of research leadership. Proposals are welcome in any research area, with the following exceptions:

鈥tudies of disease, illness and disabilities in humans and animals;

鈥esearch that is intended to inform clinical practice or the development of medical applications;

鈥esearch areas currently identified as a priority by the research councils or other significant public funders;

鈥olicy-driven research where the principal objective is to assemble an evidence base for immediate policy initiatives;

鈥esearch where advocacy is an explicit component;

鈥esearch aimed principally at an immediate commercial application;

鈥roposals in which the balance between assembling a data bank or database and the related subsequent research is heavily inclined to the former.

Applicants must have held a UK university post for at least two years but should not have developed their academic career such that the trajectory of their research contribution has become firmly established. Each institution is limited to one bid only.

Awards are worth between 拢800,000 and 拢1 million over a duration of four to five years. At least 75 per cent of funds must be used for research staff, including research assistants and postgraduate students. Up to 25 per cent may be spent on associated research costs, including technical, computing and clerical staff costs, travel and subsistence related to the research and consumables.
