I am delighted to share with you the details for the Turing鈥檚 next Data Study Group event which will be held at the Alan Turing Institute in London from 10th to 14th December. Please visit our website for further details on the event and how to apply to participate: https://www.turing.ac.uk/events/data-study-group-december-2018 (deadline: 22nd October 12:00 GMT)
Our Data Study Groups are intensive five day 鈥渃ollaborative hackathons鈥, which bring together researchers, data practitioners, and industry representatives to work together on data science challenges posed by partner organisations. Working together in multi-disciplinary teams, the aim is to encourage collaboration while working on real-world problems and datasets. The challenges for this event are:
鈥 Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (Dstl) - Seeing the unseen: Interrogating cellular-level response to hazardous materials
鈥 Imperial College London Statistics - Developing data science tools for improving enterprise cyber-security
鈥 MedImmune - Machine learning for enhanced understanding in cell culture bioprocess development
鈥 National Cyber Security Centre - Capturing the function of websites
鈥 NATS UK Air Traffic Services Provider - Next-generation trajectory prediction for air traffic control
鈥 PlayerLens - Player Pathways: Understanding career paths that deliver success for professional football players and clubs
For further information on the Data Study Groups generally, on these challenges specifically, and on how to apply, please visit https://www.turing.ac.uk/events/data-study-group-december-2018
The application form asks for details of your technical experience and experience working in collaborative groups. We have a wide definition of both so please be creative in your answers. If you think you can help our partners to answer these important questions, we want to hear from you!
The Institute will cover travel expenses (up to 拢200 for international delegates) and accommodation, and provide food and drink throughout the week. Social activities will also be arranged.
The Alan Turing Institute is committed to increasing the representation of female, black and minority ethnic, LGBTQ+, disabled and neuroatypical researchers in data science. We believe the best solutions to challenges result when a diverse team work together to share and benefit from the different facets of their experience. If you have any questions, you can reach out to the team on datastudygroup@turing.ac.uk, particularly if you are unsure about your qualifications or suitability for membership of the Data Study Group.
Please share this announcement with any of your colleagues who might be interested in joining.
Best wishes,
Sebastian Vollmer on behalf of the Data Study Group executive team
