The Institute of Physics’ Structural Condensed Matter Physics group, in collaboration with the Physical Crystallography group, invites nominations for the PANalytical thesis prize in crystallography. This recognises the best use of techniques or methods in physical crystallography in a successfully examined thesis submitted between 1 January 2016 and 31 December 2017. Methods and techniques are interpreted in a broad fashion, for example, to include x-ray and neutron diffraction or scattering, Rietveld analysis and structure refinement, total scattering, structure-property relationships, development of structure-solution techniques, crystallography under non-ambient conditions, use of complementary techniques to diffraction, computational crystallography and modelling, electron diffraction, diffuse scattering, and applications of physical crystallography in biology.

Candidates must be members of the Structural Condensed Matter Group of the IoP or the Physical Crystallography Group of the British Crystallographic Association. Non-members may enter the competition but will be required to join the groups at the student rate to progress their nomination further.

In addition to a monetary prize of £500, the winner will be invited to give the PANalytical thesis prize lecture at a group meeting.
