Peter Wahl - What we can learn from Scanning Tunneling Microscopy about topological protection
Location: P5.23
The rise of topology in condensed matter physics has generated strong interest in materials which exhibit band inversions and topologically non-trivial properties, however it has often proven difficult to pin down experimental "smoking-gun" evidence for topological protection. Based on a few examples, I will show what we can learn from atomic scale characterization of the electronic states by low temperature scanning tunneling microscopy and spectroscopy about the properties of these materials
