Novel X-ray Probes of Electronic Structure in Complex Materials
The brilliance of x-ray synchrotron sources, and in particular the ability to tune the energy close to a core level absorption edge, means that x-ray scattering experiments can now provide rich information on many physical phenomena in solids. Indeed the x-ray emission and x-ray scattering techniques, which will be introduced, are often the electronic structure probes of choice. In this lecture the methods will be discussed and their power illustrated with examples of the insight they provide to our understanding of correlated oxides, nitride semiconductors, and organic solids.
