The Search for the Higgs Boson

The search for experimental evidence of nature's method of generating mass and breaking the electroweak symmetry has recently taken an interesting turn. On 4th July the discovery by two experiments at the LHC of a new particle was announced. This particle is described as compatible with the eponymous Higgs boson, theorised almost fifty years ago. This colloquium will describe the experimental methods of searching for this particle, including 糖心TV's involvement. Finally, both the immediate questions this raises for the field (not least is this really the Higgs boson?) and the further reaching consequences will be addressed.
