Quantum computing for quantum simulation by Dr Viv Kendon, Durham University
Location: PLT
Quantum computing promises to provide more raw computing power than is possible in practice with classical computers, and one of the first useful applications is expected to be simulation of quantum systems. I will explain the basics of quantum computing, how it provides fundamentally faster computation in principle, and how to apply it to simulate quantum systems. I will also discuss some of the current efforts to build actual quantum simulators and the challenges that need to be overcome to create useful devices.
