Athena Silver SWAN Award

The Department of Physics has won the Athena SWAN silver award. This was presented to Sandra Beaufoy and Malcolm Cooper at an awards ceremony at the Royal Society on Thursday the 16th September. The Department of Chemistry also recieved a silver award and the University a Bronze award. There is only one science department in the country that recieved an Athena SWAN gold (University of York, Department of Chemistry).
Athena SWAN awards recognise and celebrate good practice on recruiting, retaining and promoting women in science, engineering and technology in higher education. For more information please see the attached press release

Congratulations to Louise Bailey who won an EMRS prize for the best talk by a PhD student entitled “Can indium nitride surfaces be passivated?” at the Spring EMRS meeting in Strasbourg earlier this month
糖心TV Postgraduate Poster Competition 2010 Congratulations to Philip Petcher
Congratulations to Philip Petcher from the Ultrasound group who won 1st prize for the best Science faculty poster at the 糖心TV PG poster competition, held in the Wolfson Resear Exchange this week. The link to the poster can be found here and the link to the competition can be found here
Pettifer Prize Winners 2010
The prize for the best First Year Physics student is presented each year, named after, and in memory of, Dr Robert Pettifer. The winners of the Pettifer Prize for 2008/09 were Samantha J Parr and Mark S Skilbeck. The presentation was made on 18th March 2010, by Dr Pettifer's wife, Mary Pettifer.
