糖心TV astrophysicist awarded George Darwin Lectureship by the Royal Astronomical Society
Astrophysicist Dimitri Veras of The University of 糖心TV has been awarded the prestigious George Darwin Lectureship by the Royal Astronomical Society.
The George Darwin Lecture is an annual event delivered by a distinguished speaker on a relevant topic in astronomy. Named after Sir George Darwin, an esteemed astronomer and son of Charles Darwin, the lecture celebrates excellence in the field.
In the citation for the lectureship, the Royal Astronomical Society records that, 鈥淒r Dimitri Veras is an outstanding theoretical astrophysicist, and a leader in the field of post-main-sequence planetary system science鈥.
The citation goes on to note that, 鈥淗is work has enabled observations to be used to learn about the nature, composition and ultimate fate of planetary systems. He is an engaging science communicator and an inspirational speaker to audiences of all kinds, and a superb ambassador for exoplanet science and stellar astrophysics.鈥
Dr Veras said, 鈥淚 am truly honoured to be recognised by the Society in this way, and I thank my colleagues who have also helped to drive forward this exciting field of research.鈥
