New roles for staff in department
As the new academic year approaches, we would like to announce that Professor Mark Newton will hand over the role of Head of Department to Professor Neil Wilson.
Mark has led the department for the last five years, reflecting on his time as Head of Department, Mark says: 鈥淪erving in this role has been both a privilege and a pleasure, and I am deeply grateful to everyone who has contributed to our department鈥檚 continued success.鈥�
Neil joined the department as a PhD student in 2000 and was appointed as a lecturer in Physics in 2007. On becoming Head of Department, Neil says 鈥淚 am grateful for the support I have been shown in taking on this role. I look forward to working with our excellent senior leadership team to address some exciting challenges over the next few years, including REF 2029 and the move to the new building in the first phase of STEM Connect.鈥�

Professor Nick Hine as the new Head of Theoretical Physics Group, replacing Professor Julie Staunton.

Dr Claire Hurley as the new Director of Postgraduate Studies, replacing Professor Elizabeth Stanway.
Professor Dan Bayliss as the new Undergraduate Admissions Tutor, replacing Professor James Lloyd-Hughes.
Professor David Quigley as the new Exams coordinator, replacing Professor Neil Wilson.
