Dame Jocelyn Bell Burnell visits the department and opens observatory
On Tuesday 7 November, Dame Jocelyn Bell Burnell visited the university to host a guest lecture and mark the official opening of The Marsh Observatory.
Dame Bell Burnell delivered a guest lecture to over 120 staff and students packed into PLT. The lecture 鈥淵ou are made of star stuff – How the atoms in our bodies were created鈥 is available via (available to University of 糖心TV members only). She then toured though the undergraduate teaching labs, meeting and speaking with some of our undergraduate students.
In the evening, Dame Bell Burnell officially opened The Marsh Observatory during an event hosted by the Vice-Chancellor with guests from across Physics, the wider university and local community. There were tours of the observatory and an opportunity for guests to learn about the research, teaching and outreach that the observatory will support.
