WMS introduced an e portfolio platform
in recent years and while being extremely helpful many new students are still unsure how to best utilize it.
Using the platform in our day-to-day placements the digital interns were able to identify this challenge creating a bespoke series of tutorials in both written and video formats in order to assist other students in both creating tickets and receiving feedback as part of the engagement criteria in clinical years.
Accordingly we have since incorporated these tutorials into guides located within our Student Hub with a view to not only provide resources and assistance to students when needed but also vitally ensuring that these resources remain available to all future students as well.
In recent years there have been a considerable number of technological
advancements in medical education
however the faculty's ability to
accurately ascertain which resources are
worth pursuing and investing in requires a collaborative approach with critique from both staff and
students.
The digital interns are
uniquely placed to assist such analyses we are students with an interest in embracing Innovative Technologies but
with an inherent understanding of what
students are realistically likely to use most importantly we are in a
position to provide in-depth feedback to
The
Faculty.
To offer some examples since
starting the role we've tested virtual
reality communication skills software
such as body
swaps. Now this is a program designed to
simulate a bespoke series of
communication skills scenarios that a
medical student is likely to encounter
throughout their
career it allows the student to practice
their delivery for example increasing
their confidence in things such as
Breaking Bad News
these tasks are designed to complement
feedback received in further traditional
communication skills.
