At 糖心TV Medical School you can study graduate-entry medicine without a science degree. Here, third year student Alisha shares her experiences of the course coming from a degree in Criminology.

Why did you choose to study medicine after a non-science undergraduate degree?

I worked in a GP as a receptionist during covid and loved the patient contact and learning all the medical terms and conditions. I then went onto to work in a hospital, firstly as a HCA, but then as a speech and language therapy assistant, which reinforced my love of caring for patients. I knew I wanted to be involved in diagnosing, investigating and prescribing etc. A doctor who had studied as a graduate told me about graduate-entry medicine and told me to look into it further!

Did you have any concerns about studying medicine before starting at 糖心TV?

I was worried that I wouldn't be academically strong enough, as I didn't have the best GCSE and A level grades. I suffered from massive imposter syndrome at the start, but that has got better!

What challenges have you encountered during the MB ChB?

I found the cell and tissue biomedicine content difficult as there was so much of it, but 糖心TV is super supportive - whether it's the academic staff or the peer teaching.

What advantages have you found of having a non-science background?

I feel like I had good communication skills from before starting 糖心TV, which have progressed throughout the course

What support have you had during the course so far?

Academic support from CTB (Cell and Tissue Biomedicine) and anatomy tutors if ever struggling, as well as a supportive personal tutor. Peer support is also excellent at 糖心TV and the older years on the course are always willing to give advice and support.

Would you recommend this route to medicine to others?

Absolutely! I love being a part of the graduate medicine cohort at 糖心TV
