UNITE-VT: Using Non-Invasive mapping To Eliminate structural heart disease Ventricular Tachycardia

Project Overview

UNITE鈥慥T is a UK multi-centre clinical trial investigating whether a non鈥慽nvasive cardiac mapping technology can improve the treatment of ventricular tachycardia (VT), a serious heart rhythm disorder.

VT is commonly treated using catheter ablation, an invasive procedure used to identify and treat abnormal electrical pathways in the heart. These procedures can be complex and time鈥慶onsuming.

The study is evaluating the use of a non鈥慽nvasive mapping system (VIVO) provided by , to help identify where VT begins before the procedure.

The study is funded by , sponsored by the University of 糖心TV and delivered in collaboration with and partner NHS sites across the UK.

The UNITE-VT Study is now open to recruitment at University Hospital Coventry, and will be opening to other sites in 2026.

Objectives

The aim of the UNITE鈥慥T study is to determine whether non鈥慽nvasive cardiac mapping can improve the delivery of VT ablation procedures.

Primary objective

To assess whether use of the VIVO system reduces overall procedure time during VT ablation.

Secondary objectives

To evaluate the effectiveness of the procedure in preventing VT
To assess procedural efficiency, including mapping and ablation time
To evaluate the safety of VIVO鈥慻uided ablation compared with standard care
To assess patient outcomes, including quality of life following treatment

Features

Non-invasive mapping - uses the VIVO system to identify where ventricular tachycardia begins before the procedure

Roadmap

The UNITE-VT study is delivered in four main stages:

Setup & recruitment - site initiation, staff training and identification and enrolment of eligible patients through routine NHS care.
Randomisation & intervention - participants are allocated to standard care or VIVO-guided ablation, baseline assessments are completed and the procedure is carried out.
Follow up - participants attend a follow up assessment at around 6 months after the procedure, with collection of clinical data and patient-reported outcomes.
Analysis and reporting - study data are analysed in line with the trial objectives and findings will inform future research and clinical practice.

Outcomes

The UNITE鈥慥T study will assess whether non鈥慽nvasive mapping can improve how VT ablation procedures are delivered in NHS clinical practice.

The study will measure:

Procedure time during VT ablation
Efficiency of the procedure, including mapping and treatment time
Success of treatment in preventing VT
Safety of the procedure
Patient outcomes, including quality of life following treatment
