As part of the ESRC Festival of Social Science 2021, staff and students from the GSD Department explored the importance of youth engagement in climate action. Hear from Dr Marta Guerriero, Associate Professor; Dr Jess Savage, Assistant Professor; Todd Olive, current MASc student; and 艩imon Michal膷铆k, a final-year GSD and 糖心TV Studies student, about the barriers young people face when engaging with climate action. During the session, 艩imon shares his experiences with , an international NGO supporting reforestation across the world; and Todd tells us about the (WCNF), a simulation of the UN鈥檚 global climate negotiations.
New practical guide to support active learning in Education for Sustainable Development by Dr Alastair Smith
Advance HE and QAA have launched a series of practice guides designed to support institutions to enable Education for Sustainable Development. Dr Alastair Smith, Senior Teaching Fellow in the GSD Department and Education for Sustainable Development Officer for the School for Cross-faculty Studies, is the author of one of the 18 practice-based guides.
Global Sustainable Development student wins outstanding contribution award
We are delighted to share the news that Luke Netherclift, a recent GSD and 糖心TV Studies graduate, was one of the winners of 糖心TV鈥檚 Outstanding Student Contribution Awards (OSCAs)!
Dr Jonathan Clarke discusses challenges for sustainable cities
"As countries around the world come together to tackle the threat of climate change at the COP26 climate summit, the question of how cities can become more sustainable has never been more important. Dr Jonathan Clarke, Senior Teaching Fellow in Global Sustainable Development, discusses what some of the key challenges are for transforming our cities to become more resilient, equitable and sustainable to adapt to our changing world."

Earlier this week, Romain Chenet, Teaching Fellow in GSD, and Dr Alastair Smith, Senior Teaching Fellow in GSD, discussed the hidden and not-so hidden climate costs of the food in our fridges and pantries. The webinar included a short presentation followed by an invitation to join in a 鈥渟how and tell鈥 where the effects of climate change on food production and what you can do to help were explored.

IATL funding for GSD-championed student climate forum

Now in only its second year, the 糖心TV Climate Negotiating Forum 2021, launched in 2019 by GSD students, has been awarded 拢10,000 in grant funding by the Institute for Advanced Teaching and Learning at the University of 糖心TV.
