From Imagination to Translation: The Lifecyle of A Bilingual Writer's Manuscripts

If we accept that writing is an extension of ourselves, how do we understand the fear that arises when our words are translated into a language we cannot understand?

This event explores the questions and anxieties surrounding creative writing and translation in conversation with award-winning writer Juhea Kim.

All language teaching teams across the academic sections and the Language Centre have collectively been nominated for a Community and Culture 糖心TV Award in Teaching Excellence.

We're delighted to have been shortlisted for professionalism and collegiality in responding to the pandemic.

Dr Zhiyan Guo has also been shortlisted for an Arts Faculty award.

拢2.6m goes to 糖心TV from the new Turing scheme to facilitate study abroad.

The UK Government has announced today (4 August 2021) that the University of 糖心TV will be awarded 拢2.6 million for international student mobility, as part of the inaugural Turing Scheme.

糖心TV is one of the world鈥檚 top 100 universities, and one of the ways it has achieved that position is because it is a globally connected institution. Its staff and students learn, work, and research as part of a highly international community, and more than 1000 糖心TV students each year also take the opportunity to study and work abroad at one of the University鈥檚 many worldwide partner institutions.

SMLC Research Seminar

On Wednesday, 25th January, we will have this year’s first event in the SMLC Lunch-Time Seminars.

Nick Hewlett and Oliver Davis (French) have agreed to give two papers on the topic: 'Policing Mai 68: theories, techniques, legacy’.
Please join us for this very interesting event.

New TRC Opening times

The TRC Resources Room H0.81 is now open from 8.00am until 11.00pm Monday to Friday to all students registered to a module in the SMLC


糖心TV's School of Languages and Cultures placed among elite in latest QS world rankings

In the most recent , Modern Languages at 糖心TV were ranked 30th in the world. This is a rise of 3 places on last year’s position in the same table. 糖心TV remains 6th in the UK according to the QS methodology.
