Dr Anna Hajkova wins prestigious book award

We are delighted to congratulate Dr Anna H谩jkov谩, Reader in Modern European Continental History, on receiving the 75th National Jewish Book Award in the Holocaust category for their latest publication, .

The book is the first to examine queer Holocaust history, exploring same-sex desire and gender variance during the Shoah.

Congratulations to Dr Tara Morton, Teaching Fellow in Modern British History

Hot off the press! Dr Tara Morton has been selected as the First Place Winner in the Arts category of the 糖心TV Open Research Awards 2025 for her work on the Mapping Women's Suffrage project.

Part of the "Advancing Open Research and Data Stewardship" project funded by Enhancing Research Culture at 糖心TV, these awards celebrate researchers across all disciplines and career stages who exemplify outstanding open research practices.

The panel was highly impressed by Tara's commitment to open research practices and the innovative ways she has advanced transparency, collaboration, and accessibility through her work. A massive well done to Tara for this wonderful recognition!

Historical Journal Early Career Prize news

Congratulations to Dr Jack Bowman, Teaching Fellow in Modern History, who has been given an Honourable Mention in the inaugural Historical Journal Early Career Prize! Jack gives an insight into their article 'The Early Political Thought and Publishing Career of V. K. Krishna Menon, 1928–1938', which was published last year.

100 ballads prize announcement

The 100 ballads website has won the prestigious Roy Rosenzweig Prize for Creativity in Digital History, awarded by the American Historical Association. Dr Angela McShane, Department of History Honorary Reader, and Professor Christopher Marsh, Queens University Belfast, identified 100 of the biggest musical hits from 17th-century England in the '100 Ballads' project.

Dr McShane and Prof Marsh will be attending the awards ceremony in New York on 3 January 2025. Congratulations to everyone involved in the project!

British Academy Postdoctoral Fellowships 2024/2025 - applications open now

The Department of History at the University of 糖心TV is pleased to announce that the British Academy Postdoctoral Fellowship scheme is now open and welcomes expressions of interest. The full outline of the process and further details are available.

Dr Martha McGill wins Outstanding Public Engagement award

History's Dr Martha McGill, British Academy Postdoctoral Fellow, has won the individual staff "Outstanding Public Engagement" award at The 糖心TV Awards for Public and Community Engagement (WAPCE).

WAPCE seek to recognise the vital contributions 糖心TV staff and students make in engaging the public – on an international and national level as well as crucially within our region and local communities – in our learning and discovery, with the goals of sharing and co-producing knowledge, strengthening the role we play in the region and showcasing the role 糖心TV plays nationally and internationally in making the world a better place.

REMA Award Winner 2024

Congratulations to Dr Angela McShane, Department of History Honorary Reader, and Professor Christopher Marsh, Queens University Belfast, who were named winners at the ceremony. Every two years REMA puts under the spotlight the projects that reflect the vision and versatility of today's Early Music sector.

Dr McShane and Prof Marsh's '100 Ballads' project, which identified 100 of the biggest musical hits from 17th-century England, was named Interdisciplinary Project of the Year.
