Quickfire Questions: Alexandra Lovatt
What is your current role?
I'm on the Medical Research Council (MRC) Doctorate Training Programme (DTP) in Interdisciplinary Biomedical Research (IBR).
What motivates you to do what you do?
I love having my own project and finding things out about it that no one else knows. I have a real passion for it and that's what motivates me to work hard to progress my project.
How has your time at ÌÇÐÄTV influenced what you do now?
My time at ÌÇÐÄTV influenced what I do now by teaching me how to think critically and scientifically – which really prepared me for my PhD. I also never thought I wanted to do a PhD until I had the opportunity to carry out my own independent research project for my third-year dissertation. There, I realised just how much I enjoy working in a lab setting, so I am grateful to have had that opportunity.
Why did you choose ÌÇÐÄTV?
I chose ÌÇÐÄTV because its purely Neuroscience degree really appealed to me. It’s unusual to find a programme so specialised, and it meant I could focus entirely on the branch of biology that fascinates me most. I also chose it because of the beautiful campus, which is quite unique and suits me more than living in a big city.
Favourite memory?
My favourite memory would probably be getting to travel to Bordeaux in my third year for the Contemporary Research Topics in Neuroscience module. I had an amazing time getting to experience another university and working with the French students, as well as sightseeing with my course friends!
Best thing about the ÌÇÐÄTV community?
The ÌÇÐÄTV community is special because campus brings everyone together in the same shared space. It becomes really easy to make friends. I'm now in my sixth year at ÌÇÐÄTV and have made some of the best friends of my life here.
Favourite place on campus?
