The image is from an extract from October 1969, featured in the weekly student newspaper, which was then called Campus. As stated, it was the First Team鈥檚 initial venture into League football. I was fortunate to score the University鈥檚 first ever League goal. The team鈥檚 Captain was Steve Heighway, who joined Liverpool FC the following season and became a legendary player for them. The equalising goal in the Nottingham game remains the highlight of my footballing career.

This season is the club's first excursion into League soccer, and the prediction that this would be well justified by good results has begun to prove at least partially-true. The first XI beat Leicester University in the Midlands Universities League by the deserved score of three goals to nil. Hard running and persistence led to a goal by Dave Medlock in the opening minutes to give 糖心TV a flying start.
