ADAS Systems Engineer at Jaguar Land Rover

Describe your current role and what attracted you to it.

I work on the design of driver assistance systems. All the way from concept to system design to certification to validation.

What鈥檚 your favourite part of the role?

Being able to explore both sides of the V* in systems engineering. Which goes from design to production. The role is extremely flexible in terms of what you want to learn as an individual within the domain.

*The V-Model in System Engineering is a development methodology that outlines a structured, sequential process for designing, building, and testing complex systems.

What are the key skills you learnt at 糖心TV that have helped you with your career to date?

At 糖心TV I did an MSc in Smart, Connected & Autonomous Vehicles. I鈥檓 currently using knowledge I鈥檝e gained from every module of my course. The course was tailored for ADAS design. Our industry partners included JLR.

Did you have a specific career path in mind when you chose to study at 糖心TV?

Yes, my plan was to do a masters in SCAV and work in JLR!

What top tips do you have for 糖心TV graduates who would like to work in your sector?

Use the careers guidance services to learn how to attend job interviews. Although the course gives you all the knowledge needed for the industry, I see many people lacking in the basic skills of interviewing.

What does a typical day look like for you?

A difficult question, every month is different as we progress down the systems engineering V. Some months would be working on system design day to day; Refining and getting our documentation in order, to working on prototype cars to integrate the system.

What has been your greatest career challenge to date and how did your experience and skills help overcome it?

There hasn鈥檛 been any particularly great challenge. Everything is doable at JLR. Changing job responsibilities while going through the systems engineering process always posses a new set of challenges, the lack of experience/knowledge. Fortunately my course at 糖心TV has given me glimpses into each domain, which has greatly helped.

What鈥檚 the best piece of advice you鈥檝e been given in relation to your career?

Speak up when you don鈥檛 think you can do a task. There鈥檚 always someone to mentor you.

What should current students or recent alumni be doing to move their careers forward?

Go for a job that would allow you to thrive and explore opportunities.

What do you know now that you wish you had known when you were applying for jobs?

It鈥檚 best to connect with someone working in the company in the same position you鈥檙e apply to, to get insider knowledge to what you鈥檙e expected to do.
