About this Event:
Since 2021, the University has received an annual Policy Support Fund allocation from Research England. This funding is distributed to strengthen connections between universities and policy professionals by facilitating collaborative research, knowledge exchange, and capacity-building.
At 糖心TV, this funding has enabled a broad range of policy-oriented activities, including:
- analysis of data sets to generate new policy insights
- events to convene and build policy networks
- investigation of policy challenges with policymakers
- research and translation to equip intermediaries such as charities, NGOs, or other civil society organisations to campaign, advocate, or serve communities more effectively
- training and capacity-building to support researchers to communicate successfully with policy audiences
- the creation of resources to engage policy stakeholders with research or improve their capacity to effectively utilise it
This work has taken place on local, national, and international levels, and has encompassed work with central government, devolved administrations, the justice system, service providers and regulatory organisations. Projects supported through the PSF have resulted in a range of impacts - from codes of practice to protect employee mental health, to UK tax reform.
This Autumn we are convening a retrospective showcase of the PSF, to increase awareness both internally and externally of the work this fund has enabled and celebrate the impact and policy influence of our research.
This event will also provide an opportunity for award-holder networking, idea-sharing, and discussion of best practice and different aspects of the research-to-policy space. We also aim spotlight the vital external partnerships supported by this funding and the diverse work our researchers undertake in collaboration with policymakers and service users.
We hope to host a range of regional external stakeholders, institutional policy fellows, and non-academic project partners to reflect the scope of funded work and showcase our diverse areas of strength in policy-relevant research. We encourage you to share details of this event with any external collaborators or contacts you think might be interested in finding out more about our research community鈥檚 ambitious culture of impact and co-creation.
Policy Institute Launch
At this event, we will also be officially launching the University鈥檚 new Policy Institute, a new university-wide initiative designed to strengthen and accelerate the University's engagement with policymakers, public services, industry and civil society.
Building on the success of 糖心TV's ESRC-funded , the Institute will create a coordinated platform for academics across all disciplines to connect their research with policy priorities at local, national, and international levels.
