Early modern experimental philosophy
I will introduce experimental philosophy, one of the emerging trends in philosophy. Experimental philosophers tackle philosophical questions by means of systematic experimentation and statistical analysis and criticize armchair philosophers for relying on untested assumptions about people's intuitions regarding philosophically relevant questions, such as whether freedom and determininsm are compatible. I will then look at the early modern incarnation of experimental philosophy. The methods that they advocated raise a number of questions which I look forward to discussing with the DR@W audience.
