Professor Seán Hand elected to Academia Europaea
Professor Seán Hand, of the Department of French Studies, has been elected to membership of the Academia Europaea - an international, non-governmental association of individual scientists and scholars who are recognised by their peers as experts and leaders in their own subject areas.
Congratulations to Professor Pam Thomas who takes up the role of Chair of the Faculty of Science and Professor Simon Swain who takes up the role of Chair of the Faculty of Arts from today, 1 September 2011. This followed a new appointment process reflecting the recommendations of the Harris Review (approved by Senate in March 2011).
Hannah Pickering
It is with great sadness that the University reports the death of Hannah Pickering, a 2nd year undergraduate student in Theatre and Performance Studies. Our thoughts are with Hannah’s friends and family at this time.
Winners of HRC Doctoral Fellowship Competition Announced
The have announced the winners of their 2011 Doctoral Fellowship Competition. The winners of the competition are each given a research budget of £400 and a conference budget of £600, and are invited to organise a one-day interdisciplinary conference during the following academic year.
Department of French Studies Wins Major AHRC Award
Professor Linda Paterson has been awarded an Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) research grant of over £400,000 to pursue a four-year Anglo-Italian collaborative project entitled 'Lyric Responses to the Crusades in Medieval France and Occitania'.
