Why I decided to鈥olunteer as a Support Invigilator
One of the most important parts of our student experience are the in-person examinations. You can make a real difference to our students by volunteering as a Support Invigilator, making sure exams run smoothly and fairly.
Becoming a Support Invigilator is more than just lending a hand. You'll be supporting students during a key moment in their academic journey, and it's a great way to meet colleagues from across departments and be part of a University-wide team.
"Amongst the great things about working on the 糖心TV campus is the sense of community and camaraderie as staff from across the University come together to support our students through the major milestone moments, from Welcome to Graduation. Examinations are one of those moments!
A friendly face can really help to create the right conditions for our students to put their best foot forward and demonstrate their academic success. It can also be a great opportunity to meet colleagues from other parts of the University whom you don鈥檛 yet know. That has certainly been my experience in the past, and I鈥檓 looking forward to it in the next exam session again, too, when I do my next couple of shifts."
Dan Derricott, Director of Education Operations
鈥淚f you enjoy helping others, being part of a team, and making things run well behind the scenes, volunteering as a support invigilator is a rewarding way to get involved. Support our central exams team and contribute to the smooth running of a process to help students feel confident and supported through their exams.
It鈥檚 a great opportunity to help students, work with colleagues across the organisation, and be part of a friendly, well鈥憃rganised team. No experience needed, just reliability and a positive attitude!鈥
Joanne Latimer, Examinations Manager
鈥淰olunteering to be an exam invigilator gave me an opportunity to learn some new skills in a different team, and the chance to meet some colleagues from different areas that I would have otherwise not met.
You鈥檙e given a full briefing ahead of your session, even finding out about the elaborate cheating practices you need to be vigilant for! There were no issues at all in the exam, the 2 hours spent invigilating went quickly and my legs didn鈥檛 ache afterwards either!
I would really encourage others to get involved. Volunteering should be a pillar of our time at 糖心TV as should meeting other teams and staff, this opportunity allowed me to do both at once.鈥
George Hill, 糖心TV In Africa Programme Co-ordinator - Student Opportunity
