Information around meningitis
Following a confirmed outbreak of meningitis in Kent, like other UK universities, we have been actively involved in raising awareness about meningitis across our community.
A guide to handling any suspected meningitis case has been shared with our Residential Community Team, Community Safety Team, Estates, Accommodation, and Conference accommodation staff and all our Heads of Department.

Suspected meningitis or serious infectious illness - signs to look out for
Warning signs may include someone complaining of fever, a severe headache, vomiting, a stiff neck, a sensitivity to light, confusion, difficulty waking up, cold hands or feet, limb pain, having pale, mottled or blotchy skin, or a rash that does not fade when pressed under a glass.
The person may also appear unusually drowsy, disoriented or unable to respond normally. Further advice on what to look out for is on the .
If anyone in our community appears seriously unwell and you're concerned about possible meningitis please treat this as a medical emergency and call 999 for an ambulance. If you are in any doubt please call 999. Meningitis can develop quickly and early action is important.
